When temperatures in the Zillertal climb above 30°C (86°F), there’s nothing better than combining nature, light activity, and a refreshing way to cool off. As a guest at Villa Rosa, you’ll have easy access to some of the region’s most beautiful summer destinations. Here are our three favorite spots to enjoy on hot summer days.
1. Lake Aufenfeld in Aschau – A Relaxing Day by the Water
The natural swimming lake at Camping Aufenfeld is one of the most beautiful bathing spots in the central Zillertal. With crystal-clear water, spacious sunbathing areas, and plenty of room to relax, it’s the perfect place to spend a warm summer day. Families especially love the safe swimming area and the many leisure activities available around the lake.
Villa Rosa Tip: Arrive in the morning and enjoy a full day by the water with stunning mountain views.
2. Easy Hike to Lake Fichtensee – The Perfect Mix of Walking and Swimming
Take the Rosenalmbahn cable car up the mountain and enjoy a leisurely walk to Fichtensee. This family-friendly hike takes about an hour and is ideal even on warmer days. Once you arrive, you can cool off in the refreshing mountain lake, rent a stand-up paddleboard, enjoy a boat ride, or simply relax by the water while taking in the breathtaking alpine scenery.
Villa Rosa Tip: Start early in the morning to enjoy cooler temperatures and reward yourself with a refreshing swim afterward.
3. Schlegeis Reservoir – Escape the Heat in the High Alps
When temperatures soar in the valley, head up to the famous Schlegeis Reservoir. Located at nearly 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) above sea level, it offers significantly cooler temperatures and fresh mountain air. The striking turquoise water, dramatic dam wall, and surrounding peaks create one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Zillertal. While swimming is not permitted, it’s an ideal destination for scenic walks, photography, and escaping the summer heat.
Villa Rosa Tip: Perfect for guests looking for a peaceful retreat and unforgettable alpine views.
